Cyclones Edge Past Panthers, 8-7
|
The Coney Island Cyclones topped the Charleston Panthers, 8-7, with shortstop Tony Amaya playing a big role. Amaya was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs for the Cyclones in the win. The win was Ken Pierce's in relief. His record improves to 5-0. Ronnie Kimble took the loss for Charleston. Coney Island is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Coney Island's win came gift-wrapped. With two out in the bottom of the ninth, with the game tied, Larry Zimmerman reached on an error by the SS, driving in 1 run.
Zimmerman told a Coney Island Bulletin reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
