Cyclones Deal Panthers Painful Loss
|
The Coney Island Cyclones knocked off the Charleston Panthers, 7-6, at Coney Island Coliseum. Tony Amaya, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Coney Island won. The shortstop was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Roger Montgomery got credit for the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 4 innings. Today's win puts Coney Island at 64-84, while Charleston falls to 68-81.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Coney Island first baseman Walker Greenan, facing Ronnie Kimble, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Cyclones the 7-6 win.
"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Greenan said.
