Gnats Lose, 2-1, at Franklin Mountains Field
|
Charleston starter Francisco Flores pitched effectively against the Nichols Gnats at Franklin Mountains Field. The right-hander led his team to a 2-1 win. Flores, now 8-4, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6, walking 1, and allowing 1 earned run. Ray Burns was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 3 save opportunities.
Carlos Quintanilla was 1 for 3 for Charleston. The 23-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jack Wirtz. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.
"Runs were at a premium," said Charleston manager Román Cruz.
