Butler drives in 3 runs as Gnats Squeeze Past Bethesda
Erik Butler was instrumental in his team's 9-8 triumph over the Bethesda Hornets. The center fielder was 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Nichols Gnats. Nichols reliever Andre Oliver picked up the win to move to 2-4. Eric Sauer suffered the loss. Vince Johnson was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 26 of 28 save opportunities.

Dusty Martella's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a sinker from Eric Sauer for a 2-run home run. It put Nichols in front, 9-8.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Gnats manager Reese O'Higgins. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

Even with the win, the Gnats have a dismal 49-93 record.
