The Eugene Emeralds scored a 2-1 win versus the Charleston Panthers at Franklin Mountains Field. Eugene pitcher Cristo Cruz nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Eugene reliever Larry Hall got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Bill Neville was tagged with the loss. The Emeralds now own a record of 70-72.
Miguel Alvarado's hit in the top of the ninth was a game-changer. With one out, he rapped a fastball from Bill Neville for a run-scoring double. It put Eugene in front, 2-1.
Afterward, Emeralds manager Ricardo Martínez was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
