Pelicans Bridle Emeralds, 1-0
|
The St. Petersburg Pelicans did just enough to secure a 1-0 victory over the Eugene Emeralds at Prefontaine Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Eduardo Alaniz, who captured player of the game honors. Alaniz, now 5-2, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing no earned runs. Their 63-74 record puts the Pelicans 4th in the Donnie Moore League Dusty Baker Division.
The Pelicans got a big at-bat from catcher Tom Monacelli. For the game, Monacelli was 1 for 4 with a home run. In the top of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 13th home run of the season gave St. Petersburg a 1-0 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Alaniz told the St. Petersburg Gazette.
