Vikings Score Late, Top River Chiefs, 5-3
|
Chippewa first baseman Ben Eisner had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Eisner went 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, even as Victoria beat the River Chiefs, 5-3. Eisner was named the player of the game despite the loss. Victoria reliever Shane Jacobs was the winner. His record is now 4-4. Stu Gale took the loss. Andy Jones notched his 2nd save in 2 chances.
Victoria used the timely hitting of Carlos Avendano to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Vikings on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Avendano told the Victoria Today: "I was born for the big stage."
Victoria improves to 83-55 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.
