Pelicans Bang Out 9-6 Win Versus Tree City
|
St. Petersburg withstood an impressive performance by Tree City left fielder Brian Briggs to defeat the Black Squirrels, 9-6, at Billy Mathews Field. Briggs went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Brad Leys, who threw 101 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits. St. Petersburg is now 61-73, while Tree City is 70-64.
In the bottom of the first inning, shortstop Larry Castillo came through big-time for the Pelicans. With St. Petersburg leading 3-0, he belted a 3-run home run.
"We came out aggressive," said Pelicans manager Kurt Brumfield. "We came out swinging the bats."
