The Victoria Vikings eked out a 3-2 win versus the Houston Sting at Woodland Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Joey McCalvin, who captured player of the game honors. Jorge Ortega notched his 3rd save in 7 chances. Victoria leads the Lyman Bostock League Earl Weaver Division by 6 games.

It could have been a different outcome for Victoria, had it not been for Carlos Avendano, the 22-year old right fielder . Avendano contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Victoria up, 2-1.

"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," McCalvin said after the game.
