Padilla Delivers Clutch At-Bat for Charleston in Walk-Off Win
|
Charleston played host to Tree City at the friendly confines of Franklin Mountains Field.
The Panthers had to overcome a fine performance from Tree City pitcher Rudy Cortez to grab a 1-0 win at Franklin Mountains Field. Cortez allowed no earned runs over 7 innings. Charleston reliever Bill Neville was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Chion Hatanaka took the loss for Tree City.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Charleston designated hitter Raul Padilla, facing Chion Hatanaka, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Panthers the 1-0 win.
"The old adage is true," said Padilla. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
Charleston now sits at 59-69, while Tree City falls to 66-61.
