Victory Over River Chiefs Takes Okanagan to 80-43
|
The Okanagan Lake Monsters knocked off the Chippewa River Chiefs, 5-3, at Elks Stadium. Dave Calderon, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Okanagan won. The center fielder went 4 for 4 with 4 singles. David Pena, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held Chippewa to 3 earned runs on 4 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Nobutoshi Katayama earned his 3rd save in 4 chances.
The Lake Monsters got a big at-bat from first baseman Robby Nave. For the game, Nave was 1-5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Okanagan a 2-1 lead.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Nave told the Okanagan Times.
Okanagan goes to 80-43. The win puts them 10˝ games up in their division.
