The Nichols Gnats defeated the Chippewa River Chiefs, 5-4, in Lyman Bostock League action at The Reservation, with Nichols pitcher Eddie Ascencio named player of the game. Even with the win, the Gnats have a dismal 38-74 record.
Nate Shrader aided the Nichols cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the designated hitter went 2 for 2 with a double and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Ascencio said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
