Great Effort by Earthquakes RF Maekawa Not Enough in 7-5 Loss
The inspired effort of San Francisco left fielder Hisaji Maekawa was not enough to prevent a 7-5 loss to the Vancouver Pioneers. Maekawa went 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The winner was Kenko Samurakami, who threw 110 pitches over 6.2 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits. The Pioneers go to 26-31, putting them 4th in the Thurman Munson League Billy Martin Division.

The Pioneers got a big at-bat from first baseman Kelsey Sherrill. For the game, Sherrill was 1-2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Vancouver a 3-2 lead.
