Emeralds Turn Back Bethesda, 3-2
|
The Eugene Emeralds topped the Bethesda Hornets, 3-2, in Donnie Moore League action at Prefontaine Park. The player of the game was Eugene pitcher and San Juan, Puerto Rico native Francisco Bibian. Bibian, now 5-8, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 6, walking 5, and allowing 2 earned runs. Cody Mason got the save, his 9th in 12 chances.
The Emeralds got a big at-bat from center fielder Marcos Moreno. For the game, Moreno went 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 83rd hit of the season gave Eugene a 3-2 lead.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Eugene manager Ricardo Martínez said.
Eugene is now 48-40, Bethesda 53-34.
