River Chiefs Fall Short, 5-4, at Coney Island
|
Clifton Leclair helped his team muscle past the Chippewa River Chiefs, 5-4. In the game, the Coney Island center fielder was 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Joe Schrock picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-2. Marlin Bryan was tagged with the loss. Steve Misiak was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 15 of 17 save opportunities.
The Cyclones got a big at-bat from catcher Francis Unicombe. For the game, Unicombe went 2-2 with 2 singles and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI. In the bottom of the seventh, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 43rd hit of the season gave Coney Island a 5-4 lead.
"We found a way to get it done," Unicombe said.
The Cyclones, now at 37-47, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.
