The Eugene Emeralds downed the Palm Beach Bums, 5-3, at Prefontaine Park. The Emeralds were led by Lance Russell, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Tommy Montgomery, the winner, improved to 8-3. He held the Bums to 3 earned runs on 5 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 4. Cody Mason notched his 2nd save in 4 chances.
Russell had an important at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second, when he hit a bases-clearing double. The Emeralds went on to win.
"It was a solid team effort," said Russell after the game.
The Emeralds bumped their record to 38-32 with this latest triumph.
