The Victoria Vikings did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Nichols Gnats at The Pond. Nobody did more than pitcher Joey McCalvin, who captured player of the game honors. Victoria leads the Lyman Bostock League Earl Weaver Division by 4˝ games.
Though he didn't earn the victory, McCalvin kept his team in the game until the bullpen took over and the Victoria offense came through. Over 7.1 innings, he allowed 3 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 12.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," McCalvin said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
