Emeralds Stymie Tree City, Take 4-1 Win

The Eugene Emeralds picked up a win at The Nut House, knocking off the Tree City Black Squirrels, 4-1. On the mound for Eugene was right-hander Francisco Bibian, who played a pivotal role in the win. Bibian went 8.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. His record improves to 1-7. Ángel Velázquez picked up the save for Eugene, his 7th of the year.
The Emeralds got a big at-bat from shortstop Ed Mathias. For the game, Mathias went 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Eugene a 3-0 lead.
"I like how we're playing right now," said Bibian.
Eugene now has a 5-game win streak.
