Victory Pushes Emeralds Record to 25-25
|
The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Boise Bloodhounds, 7-3. Earning player of the game honors was first baseman Ed Mathias, who went 1-2 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Tommy Montgomery, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 5-2. Ángel Velázquez saved it for Eugene.
Tal-hun Kug, who leads the AHL in hits with 65, aided the Eugene cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the second. For the game, the left fielder went 2-5 with 2 singles.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Mathias told the Eugene Gazette. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The Emeralds bumped their record to 25-25 with this latest triumph.
