Black Squirrels Score Late to Upend Jedi Knights, 2-1
|
The Black Squirrels had to overcome a fine performance from New Orleans pitcher Juan Ayala to grab a 2-1 win at The Republic. Ayala allowed no earned runs over 5.1 innings. Tree City reliever Jorge Domínguez picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Rich Owen took the loss. Cory Kieck nailed down his 15th save.
Tree City used the timely hitting of Huong Toai to capture the win. The left fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Black Squirrels on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Toai said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
Tree City has 3 straight wins, New Orleans 3 straight losses.
