Pelicans Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Bums

Palm Beach right fielder Fernando Rivera was sensational. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. St. Petersburg beat the Bums, 5-4. Rivera was named the player of the game despite the loss. St. Petersburg reliever Rudy Brisson picked up the win to move to 2-0. Joe Manfredi suffered the loss. The Pelicans move to 15-23 with the win, while the Bums drop to 15-23.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Kyousuke Ohnuki came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Palm Beach pitcher Joe Manfredi, he hit a full count cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Petersburg on top, 4-3.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said St. Petersburg manager Kurt Brumfield. "It's usually not just one thing."
