Gnats Score Late to Upend Mustangs, 7-5
|
The Nichols Gnats downed the San Angelo Mustangs, 7-5, at Heartland Kettlecorn Stadium. The Gnats were led by Trevor Goldsmith, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 1 with a home run and 3 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Reliever Sandy Cobos picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Kunio Otsuka took the loss. Vince Johnson closed it out for his 11th save.
The Gnats got a big at-bat from designated hitter Eric Behan. For the game, Behan was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the top of the eighth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 9th home run of the season gave Nichols a 7-5 lead.
