Jacks Lose to Mafia, 5-3
|
The New York Mafia picked up a win at Don Corleone Park, knocking off the Jacksonville Jacks, 5-3. Starting pitcher Mito Ishikawa, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Ishikawa, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 3 earned runs. Jun'ichi Suzuki converted his 10th save in 13 tries.
The Mafia got a big at-bat from second baseman Bill Grant. For the game, Grant went 2 for 5 with a triple and a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 6th triple of the season gave New York a 2-0 lead.
"I still have a lot of confidence in this team," New York manager Dave Maloney said afterward.
Even with the win, the Mafia have a dismal 19-36 record.
