Martinez drives in 3 runs as Panthers Squeeze Past Coney Island
|
Behind a solid performance from second baseman Esteban Martinez, the Charleston Panthers defeated the Coney Island Cyclones, 6-5. Martinez went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for the Panthers. Chris Elwell, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save. The Cyclones fall to 12-19 and continue to sputter in the early going.
Mike Burge drew 1 walk for Charleston. The 21-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 5-5 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Jerry Soto. It was his 21st RBI of the season.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Burge.
