Chippewa pitcher Lorenzo Chavez did his part in helping his team beat the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 4-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Chavez got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 5 hits and walked 3 over 7.2 innings. Chavez allowed 1 earned run. The Pelicans fall to 10-16 and continue to sputter in the early going.
Brian Arms hit a 2-run double off Kelly Livingston in the bottom of the first, which put the River Chiefs in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Arms had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3.
