Black Squirrels Win at West Virginia, 8-5
|
The inspired effort of West Virginia catcher Luis Guzmán was not enough to prevent a 8-5 loss to the Tree City Black Squirrels. Guzmán went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Bruce Cunningham got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The win brings the Black Squirrels to 8-11, a soft start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
The Black Squirrels got a big at-bat from catcher Ramon Abreu. For the game, Abreu was 1-5, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 19th hit of the season gave Tree City a 3-1 lead.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Abreu told the Tree City Gazette.
