Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the San Diego Hops were eager to watch Salah bin Atif square off against Tanner Johnson of the visiting So Cal Republic. In the end, the Hops won the game, 2-1, with Salah bin Atif earning player of the game honors.
bin Atif, who dominated for San Diego, earned the victory to move to 1-0. He was in control the whole game, scattering 3 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 9. So Cal batters could never bunch up enough hits to produce a rally.
"I felt we were ready to go," said San Diego manager Randy England. "Our pregame was pretty good."
