Houston pitcher José Toro did his part in helping his team beat the Tree City Black Squirrels, 7-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 5 innings, Toro surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 4. He allowed 1 run. Getting the save was Mike Huerta, his 1st.
The Sting got a big at-bat from catcher John Bloom. For the game, Bloom went 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 5th hit of the season gave Houston a 3-1 lead.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Toro.
Houston, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
