Cornhuskers Win at Sandy Springs, 8-5
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers topped the Sandy Springs Spartans by the score of 8-5, with the biggest share of the credit going to catcher Jeff Henson. Henson was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times for the Cornhuskers on the day. DeKalb reliever Bill Poulin picked up the win to move to 1-0. Juan Yarrito suffered the loss. David Gilmour converted his 3rd save in 7 tries.
Had Tatsuhiko Torii not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Torii hit a 2-run double. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Cornhuskers.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Torii said.
The Spartans, now 77-70, have lost 6 straight.
