Jail Birds Come Back Late to Clip Storm Troopers
|
The San Antonio Storm Troopers got a superb performance from pitcher Jesús Espinosa. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Newark. The Jail Birds won the game, 6-2. In spite of the loss, Espinosa was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. The winner was Newark reliever Bob Sulewski, now 5-1. The loser was Steve Becker. Newark has now won 3 in a row.
Newark used the timely hitting of Carlos Ortíz to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Jail Birds on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Ortíz said.
