Ducks Roll to 9-1 Win Over Mustang
|
The rain at Long Island Stadium did not keep Long Island and Carson City from finishing their game.
Long Island third baseman Nick DeLuca was a significant contributor in his team's 9-1 triumph over the Carson City Mustang. He went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4 for Long Island. Maurice Oakley, who went 7.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 6-5.
DeLuca contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Long Island in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, DeLuca took a fastball from Iemitsu Shiroi and stroked the home run to left. His 14th home run of the season allowed the Ducks to leap in front, 4-1.
"We played hard and won," said DeLuca. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
Long Island is now 62-74.
