The Sandy Springs Spartans knocked off the Jacksonville Hellcats, 4-2, at Hellcats Park. Roberto Vargas, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Sandy Springs won. The catcher was 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Sandy Springs reliever Miguel Rodríguez picked up the win, upping his record to 7-1. Rick Byrnes was saddled with the loss. The Spartans bumped their record to 72-59 with this latest triumph.
Sandy Springs took advantage of an error in the top of the third inning. The game was tied, 0-0, when Hirofumi Ishibashi hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put Sandy Springs in front, 1-0.
