Willis Pierce left his imprint on the 7-5 Wichita win against the Phoenix Lights. Pierce, who is tied for 3rd in the FFL in runs scored with 88, went 2 for 4 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. Wichita reliever Valentim Carrapa picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Juan Salinas was saddled with the loss. Al Hrabosky Jr. notched his 30th save in 33 chances.

The most important at-bat for Wichita came in the top of the ninth inning. With no one out, Hai-dong Szema reached on an error by the C, driving in 1 run, putting Wichita up, 6-5.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Pierce. "And not try to do too much."

The first-place Wolverines, at 74-56, now lead their division by 3½ games.
