Hawks Get Road Win, 6-3
|
The Boise Hawks knocked off the Youngstown Tune-Ups, 6-3, at Joey Naples Memorial Colloseum. Umito Kono, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Boise won. The right fielder was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs. Sean Nichols earned the win for Boise. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4. With the win, he raised his record to 7-11. The third-place Hawks improved to 58-52.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from left fielder Pete Freeman. For the game, Freeman was 2-5 with 2 singles. In the top of the seventh, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 88th hit of the season gave Boise a 4-3 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Freeman said after the game.
