The first-place Wichita Wolverines welcomed Long Island to Howling Park.

Getting a good performance from second baseman Juan Gruzmán, the Wichita Wolverines defeated the Long Island Ducks, 11-9. Gruzmán went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs for the Wolverines. Al Hrabosky Jr. earned his 24th save in 27 chances.

Gruzmán contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for Wichita in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 5-4, Gruzmán took a slider from Jackson Knickle and stroked the double to right. His 14th double of the season allowed the Wolverines to leap in front, 6-5.

"There were things that we could've improved upon," said Wolverines manager Dave Moran, "but all in all, I'm satisfied with our performance."
