Newark got a terrific performance from pitcher Manabu Yamauchi, but it wasn't enough to beat the Wichita Wolverines. Wichita won the Cobras Ballpark contest, 9-3. Yamauchi was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He came in in relief and pitched to 18 batters . The Wolverines bumped their record to 56-46 with this latest triumph.

Lloyd Noland aided the Wichita cause with a grand slam home run in the top of the third. For the game, the designated hitter was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.

Noland told a Wichita Herald reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
