Victory Pushes Wolverines Record to 55-45
The Wichita Wolverines picked up a win at Cobras Ballpark, knocking off the Newark Jail Birds, 5-1. Starting pitcher Magyver McKenzie played a key role in the triumph. McKenzie, now 10-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 1 hit, while striking out 7, walking 7, and allowing no earned runs. The Wolverines bumped their record to 55-45 with this latest triumph.

The Wolverines got a big at-bat from first baseman Willis Pierce. For the game, Pierce was 1-3 with a double and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI. In the top of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 28th double of the season gave Wichita a 2-0 lead.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Pierce. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
