Black Bears Nip Cornhuskers, 8-7
|
The Fraser Valley Black Bears topped the DeKalb Cornhuskers by the score of 8-7, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Derek Warford. Warford went 1 for 3 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Black Bears on the day. Shu-de Tian got the save, his 23rd in 27 chances. Fraser Valley is now riding a 4-game win streak.
Warford contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Fraser Valley in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 7-4, Warford took a fastball from Rainer Waldheim and stroked the home run to right. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Black Bears to leap in front, 8-7.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Fraser Valley manager Casey Ramey.
