Oakes Slugs Stogies to 6-1 Win
|
Havana second baseman John Oakes was a significant contributor in his team's 6-1 triumph over the Hawaii Islanders. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for Havana. Peter Miner, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 3 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 11. His record now stands at 7-2. The Stogies bumped their record to 30-13 with this latest triumph.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Oakes, who is tied for 2nd in the RCL in total bases with 101, hit a 2-run home run. It propelled the Stogies into the lead, 3-1.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Oakes said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
