Hawks Win at Riverside, 4-1
|
Boise right-hander Sean Nichols made an effective start against the Riverside Red Bulls at Red Bull Stadium, leading his team to a 4-1 win. The winning pitcher was Nichols, now 5-9. He tossed 8 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 6 and fanning 5. Hiroo Okimura got the save, his 19th in 21 chances.
Pete Freeman was 1 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Boise. The 21-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Daryl Walder. It was his 32nd RBI of the season.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Nichols. "Successful pitchers do it."
Boise is now 40-42, while Riverside is 45-38.
