It was a good time at McCormick Field, where fans came to watch the Newark Jail Birds and Pacifica Shamrocks get after it.
The Pacifica Shamrocks beat the Newark Jail Birds, 7-3, at McCormick Field. Pacifica center fielder Barry Huffman earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Bernard Coste earned the win for Pacifica. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 3-2.
Eigo Matsuo, who is tied for 2nd in the ACL in stolen bases with 31, aided the Pacifica cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder was 1-3 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
In comments to the Pacifica News, Matsuo admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Pacifica improves to 58-23 with the win. They lead their division by 17 games.
