Victory Pushes Rats Record to 46-33
|
The Rock River Rats grabbed a 9-2 win over the Frisco Rams at The Rat Hole. Rock River third baseman Don Newbold was 2-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once to earn player of the game honors. The winner was Jeff Stephens, who threw 91 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits. Owen Lewis was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 2 save opportunities.
Newbold contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Rock River in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Newbold took a fastball from Javier Martínez and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Rats to leap in front, 3-2.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Newbold said after the game.
The Rats bumped their record to 46-33 with this latest triumph.
