Spartans Mow Down Cornhuskers, 11-3
|
The Sandy Springs Spartans beat the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 11-3, at The Coliseum. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Thomas Bernard, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Rubén Villalobos, credited with the win, is now 5-3. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings. The Spartans bumped their record to 28-27 with this latest triumph.
The Spartans got a big at-bat from second baseman Justin Duncan. For the game, Duncan was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run single. His 60th hit of the season gave Sandy Springs a 4-2 lead.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Bernard.
