Atlantic City third baseman Tim Mathews played a vital role in his team's 9-6 triumph over Phoenix. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Atlantic City. Jeremy Jefferson, credited with the win, is now 6-2. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 4 innings. Doug Durham closed the door for Atlantic City, picking up his 5th save of the year.
Had Kian-tat Au not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Au hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 9-6, in favor of the Enforcers.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Mathews.
The Enforcers bumped their record to 27-27 with this latest triumph.
