Tune-Ups Need Extra Frames to Get Past Hellcats
|
The Youngstown Tune-Ups topped the Jacksonville Hellcats, 6-5, with catcher Mark Southland playing a big role. Southland went 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Tune-Ups in the win. Youngstown reliever Charlie Wife picked up the win to move to 1-0. Len Adkins suffered the loss. The Tune-Ups bumped their record to 27-25 with this latest triumph.
Youngstown used the timely hitting of José Martínez to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 13th inning to put the Tune-Ups on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We try to keep the mood light around here," said Martínez. "Winning helps."
