Jail Birds Rally For Late Win Over Black Bears
|
Fraser Valley got a terrific game from third baseman John Hardwick. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Newark, 4-3. Hardwick was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-3 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The win was Bob Sulewski's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Leslie Arrington took the loss for Fraser Valley. John Freemann earned save number 12.
The Jail Birds got a big at-bat from shortstop Albert Rodríguez. For the game, Rodríguez was 1 for 4. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 38th hit of the season gave Newark a 4-3 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Rodríguez told the Newark Chronicle.
The 5th-place Jail Birds raised their record to 21-29.
