Big Day by Boyer Ignites Tune-Ups Win
|
The Youngstown Tune-Ups defeated the Topeka Predators, 8-7, at The Field at Richmond. Youngstown catcher Ken Boyer was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Ryan Davis was the winner. Over 6.2 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Keisaburo Kanada picked up the save for Youngstown, his 9th of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Youngstown, had it not been for Shalom Oosterman, the 22-year old right fielder . Oosterman contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the second inning to put Youngstown up, 2-0.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Oosterman, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Tune-Ups hope to make a postseason run.
