Hawks Come Back Late, Nip Beehive
|
The Boise Hawks eked out a 3-2 win versus the Madison Beehive at Basque Block Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Mauro Vázquez, who captured player of the game honors. The win was Andy Ryan's in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Gilberto Vega took the loss for Madison. Hiroo Okimura recorded the save for Boise, his 9th of the season.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Bill Rendell. For the game, Rendell went 1-2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 25th hit of the season gave Boise a 3-2 lead.
After the game, Boise manager Tom Becker applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
The Beehive fall to 8-16 and continue their lackluster start in 2033.
