Cornhuskers Fall Short, 4-3, at Phoenix
|
The Phoenix Lights defeated the DeKalb Cornhuskers, 4-3. Earning player of the game honors was second baseman Fred Nagy, who went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The win was Jian-cheng Wang's in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Enrico Avalos took the loss for DeKalb. The Cornhuskers, now 15-10, continue their sluggish start.
Had Harlan Sanderson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Sanderson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lights.
"We need to string a few more wins like this one together," said Sanderson.
