Umito Kono made an impact in the 6-3 Boise win over Phoenix. Kono went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Sean Nichols got the win, improving to 10-13. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 3. Hiroo Okimura notched his 35th save in 37 chances.
The Hawks got a big at-bat from designated hitter Alvaro Colon. For the game, Colon went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Boise a 4-2 lead.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Colon.
The Hawks bumped their record to 70-65 with this latest triumph.
